Law Society highlights islamic perspective on legal issues
Friday 17 November 2006
The Law Society is furthering its campaign to promote equality and diversity by hosting an Islamic Family Law Seminar for solicitors offering legal services to diverse social groups.
This seminar aimed at family law solicitors and the judiciary will provide a basic understanding of Islamic legal issues. It will offer guidance on legal matters involved in the upbringing of a Muslim child, including the Pakistan Protocol, wearing the veil, and issues relating to custody, education, maintenance and circumcision.
The seminar, which is co-hosted by the Association of Muslim Lawyers, reflects the increasing demand for legal services from Muslim clients and is central to the Law Society’s commitment to assist its members in delivering sensitive, appropriate and high quality advice to all members of the community.
Fiona Woolf, Law Society President said: “As the representative body for solicitors, the Law Society works hard to promote equality and diversity and to provide solicitors with the skills to be able to serve all members of the community. This seminar will help solicitors to meet the ever-increasing demand for a family law service tailored to the needs of Muslim clients.”
