Plaque to Islam to be dedicated Friday
On Friday at 10 a.m., the Lateef Legacy Committee will dedicate a plaque in honor of Lateef Islam at the Family Partnership Center celebrating the one-year anniversary of his death.
Lateef Islam was the first executive director and co-founder of the Family Partnership Center, a multi-service collaboration of human service agencies at 29 North Hamilton Street in Poughkeepsie.
Since Islam's death last October, there have been many events in his honor. These include a human service conference in February, a multi-church gospel concert in March, and a film, "Lateef in Poughkeepsie," made by Vassar College students in American Culture that was shown in May.
Joe D'Ambrosio, president of the Family Partnership Center, says, "This plaque is important because it commemorates a man who continues to have influence on this community."
