VATICAN v ISLAM: IN THE PAPERS

[1]

Pope, Byzantine Emperor, ‘Educated Persian’ and Islam

M.J. Akbar

"An intriguing part of the conversation between the Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Paleologus and “an educated Persian” now made world-famous by Pope Benedict XVI, is that the Persian seems to have no name. There is no mention of it in the speech made by the Holy Father during his “Apostolic Journey” to the University of Regensburg on 9/12.
The Persian must have been an intellectual of some importance if he was good enough to merit an audience with an “erudite” emperor. Does his name exist in the original text, since it was “presumably the Emperor himself who set down this dialogue, during the siege of Constantinople between 1394 and 1402”?
Was the name mentioned in the version produced by professor Theodore Khoury, which the pope has read, and which he used in a speech on a critical aspect of a sensitive theme at a time of conflict, on the Islamic doctrine of “holy war”? I ask because names lend greater credibility to text."

...

Perhaps M.J. Akbar will actually read the Pontiff's speech in full and then at the very bottom take note that the Vatican had issued this notice:

[2]

NOTE:The Holy Father intends to supply a subsequent version of this text, complete with footnotes. The present text must therefore be considered provisional.

That means there is more on the way from the Vatican with footnotes so everyone can find the information for themselves...I don't expect moslems to look for anything, they are going to riot, kill, explode, etc...It is their MODUS OPERANDI as set down by their murdering, thieving, pedophile of a so called 'prophet' mohammad...

Saud Asks Pope to Clarify Stance on Islam
P.K. Abdul Ghafour

"JEDDAH, 17 September 2006 — Saudi Arabia yesterday urged Pope Benedict XVI to issue a statement clarifying his stand on Islam and its teachings after his provocative statement on Tuesday denigrating Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In a message to his Vatican counterpart, Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal denounced the pope’s allegation that the Prophet spread Islam with sword and his move to justify Crusade wars launched against Muslims.
In his speech, Benedict cited an obscure Medieval text that characterized some of the
teachings of the Prophet Muhammad as “evil and inhuman,” particularly “his command to spread by the sword the faith.”
Prince Saud said the Muslim nation has always tried to open effective dialogue with other religions and cultures, especially Christianity. “I write to you this message at a time when international relations are going through a difficult phase ... with the hope of finding solutions to overcome such difficulties,” the prince said.
“We were hurt by the pope’s statement on Islam and on the personality of the Prophet, particularly his comment that the Prophet spread Islam with the sword,” Saud said."

...

Uhhhhh poor babies had their feelings hurt, booo hooo hoooo...The Pontiff needs to stick to his guns and should give Saud an answer he will not like, an answer from their own islamic texts...Now that would really open up Pandora's Box and have the moslems riot, kill, behead, explode, fly airplanes into buildings, bomb, etc. in the name of THE RELIGION OF PEACE and on behalf of their MURDERING, WAR WAGING, THIEVING, HAVING SEX WITH A 9 YEAR OLD CHILD (YES, THAT IS PEDOPHILIA), MISOGONYSTIC 'prophet' mohammad...

Pope Sorry Muslims Were Offended

"JEDDAH, 17 September 2006 — The Vatican said yesterday that Pope Benedict is sorry Muslims were offended by a speech that provoked fury in the Islamic world and led to calls for the leader of the Catholic church to apologize personally.

The pope “sincerely regrets that certain passages of his address could have sounded offensive to the sensibilities of the Muslim faithful,” Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said in a statement."
...

Just look at the moslem reaction, it shows exactly what islam is all about:

-murder
-death threats
-rioting
-stealing
-waging war
-slavery
-rape
-pedophilia
-misogyny

Responding to Pope’s diatribe with dialogue
By Mohammed A.R. Galadari

THE Muslim world’s outrage over Pope Benedict XVI’s remarks associating Islam and the Prophet with violence shouldn’t and wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Everyone who has a nodding acquaintance with the great faith and its followers would know that Muslims love and revere their religion and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) more than their own lives.
After all, the angry and anguished protests across the globe over the disturbing Danish caricatures some months ago are still fresh in public memory. Which is why I am perplexed by the callous remarks made by the Pope. Was the religious and spiritual leader of the Christendom really oblivious of the imminent and disastrous consequences of his comments?
More importantly, I find the timing of the Papal gaffe really intriguing.
The Pope couldn’t have chosen a more inappropriate time to launch this harangue. The gulf between the West and Arab-Muslim world is at its widest now. With the ongoing ’war on terror’ and disastrous handling of the campaign in Afghanistan and Iraq, the popular sentiment in the Muslim world against the West is really strong.
In a situation like this, you would expect religious and political leaders to do all they can to bridge this dangerous divide, not further widen it by playing with popular religious sentiments and beliefs.

...

That said, I must emphasise that it’s important for the Muslims everywhere to respond to all allegations and abuse against their faith and the Prophet with utmost restraint and reason. Of course, they have a right to protest any attempt to denigrate their faith and the Prophet. But any violence in the name of such protests would only prove Islam’s critics right. The best reply to the Pope’s diatribe would be a sincere and systematic movement to present the real face of this great religion before the world. This is a war of ideas. We should take on this ideological challenge with ideas. So this unfortunate episode must not drive the Christians and Muslims further apart. It should bring them closer and open a constructive dialogue between their great faiths.

Is this how moslems demonstrate their restraint?!? Ohhhh wait, they have no restraint, they are like demons that have escaped hell to bring terror to the world...

Italian Nun Shot Dead by Somali Gunmen, Doctors Say

"MOGADISHU, Somalia — Gunmen killed an Italian nun and her bodyguard at the entrance of a hospital where she worked, in an attack some feared could be linked to Muslim outrage over the pope's recent remarks about Islam, officials said Sunday.

The nun, who has not been identified, was shot in the back four times by two gunmen armed with pistols, Dr. Mohamed Yusef told The Associated Press.

Witnesses and hospital officials said the shooting took place at

S.O.S. Hospital for women and children in volatile northern Mogadishu midday Sunday.

One person has been arrested, Yusuf Mohamed Siad, head of security for the Islamic courts now controlling the capital, told the AP without providing further details.
He said they were looking for one other man who escaped.

"They could be people annoyed by the pope's speech, which angered all Muslims in the world, or they could have been having something to do with S.O.S," he said.
"We will have to clarify this through our investigation.""
