Four soldiers killed in suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan

"Four Nato soldiers and several civilians died and more than 20 children were injured today when a suicide bomber on a bicycle blew himself up in southern Afghanistan - just a day after Nato declared the area free of Taleban insurgents.

The troops were handing out pens and notebooks to a crowd of children in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar at around 0930 local time (0500 GMT) when an attacker detonated explosives strapped to his body.

The Taleban claimed responsibility for the attack and said that the soldiers were Canadian.
Nato's International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) confirmed a bomb had exploded near a patrol, killing four soldiers and an unspecified number of civilians. The spokesman would not immediately confirm the nationality of the soldiers. He added that other soldiers and civilians were wounded. "
