DAR AL ISLAM - AFGHANISTAN: AL QAEDA WILL AVENGE THE DEATH OF AL-LIBI

Al-Qaeda leader pledges revenge for death of al-Libi

Amid renewed concern about the security of Afghanistan, a senior al-Qaeda leader has pledged to avenge the death of Pakistani leader, Abu Layth al-Libi.

Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, al-Qaeda's top figure in Afghanistan, has released a new video on Islamist websites threatening fresh attacks against NATO troops in revenge.

Al-Libi was reportedly killed by CIA Predator aircraft in a secret mission in Mir Ali in the Waziristan region of northern Pakistan on January 25.

In the 12 minute video, entitled "Light and Fire", the Egyptian-born terrorist leader threatens revenge for al-Libi's death.

"We now commemorate one of our dead heroes in the land of Jihad, remembered for his martyrdom by all Muslims and in particular by the mujahadeen in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya and the Islamic Maghreb," he said, reading from a prepared text.

"For this we offer our condolences in particular to Mullah Omar, Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri. His death is the realisation of a goal to become a martyr."
