UK Muslim delegation 'excited' in Iran
A delegation of representatives of British Muslim groups are visiting Iran, with the aim of sharing experiences and views, and finding common ground for mutual understanding.
The visit is part of a series, sponsored by the British Foreign Office, to engage in constructive dialogue with Muslim countries around the world. To date there have been around 30 such delegations to approximately 20 countries.
"We are very excited to have arrived here in Iran for this opportunity to help overcome many of the misunderstandings which have arisen between our two nations, through engaging in direct dialogue with Iranians about the issues which concern us all," the delegation said.
"We are proud to be representing a diverse range of leading British Muslim organizations and presenting a cross-section of the views and aspirations of the two million Muslims in Britain today," it said in a press release issued through the UK Foreign Office.
The delegation of three women and four men said they were also in Iran 'to learn and take our experiences back with us to our communities in the UK, with the aim of building long-term bridges'.
