Scholars urge Muslims to embrace western education
July 9 (UPI) -- Kaura (Kaduna), July 9, 2007 (NAN) Islamic scholars on Sunday called on Muslims to embrace western education to be able to acquire the knowledge required to practice the religion. Malams Abdullahi Musa and Mustapha Muhammad made the call in Kaura in Kaduna State where they delivered special sermons to Muslims. In the separate sermons, they agreed that it was only the acquisition of knowledge that could empower Muslims to prepare for the hereafter. They said one could only make adequate preparation for the last day through the acquisition of religious knowledge, which was only possible by going to school. Muslims -- 2 The scholars, who quoted portions of the Qur'an and Hadith to support their arguments, described knowledge as the basic foundation for descent life. They urged parents to be alive to their responsibility, especially in ensuring proper the upbringing of their children. In their presentations, Malam Nasiruddeen Muhammad and Malam Hassan Musa urged parents to place the search for knowledge above money and said it was the only asset necessary for human existence. They appealed to the youth to seek the acquisition of Islamic and western education to be able to compete in the dynamic world.
